In a historic familiarisation visit on Tuesday, 13th May 2025, the Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee (IMCC) on Decentralisation, Dr. Gameli Kewuribe Hoedoafia, was warmly received by Mr. Yuze Hamko, the Political Head at the Embassy of Japan in Accra.

The meeting sought to explore avenues for deeper collaboration and partnership between both institutions, particularly in the area of decentralisation and local governance. Dr. Hoedoafia underscored the significance of Japan’s role in Ghana’s decentralisation efforts, commending the government of Japan for its longstanding support through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

“Japan remains a critical partner in our decentralisation agenda,” Dr. Hoedoafia stated. “For Ghana to work effectively, it is imperative to operate a fully decentralised system where the people are a part of the governance process.”

He highlighted the Government’s commitment to deepening decentralisation reforms for effective service delivery and local ownership.
